Video Crush: Case Studies – “Lies”

After nearly a year-long hiatus from his former Seattle folk outfit (The Dutchess and the Duke), Jesse Lortz swung the cabin door of his Sequim, WA refuge open and unveiled The World Is Just a Shape to Fill the Night. Although Lortz’s familiar, wise-beyond-his-years lyricism rings clearly through tracks like “Texas Ghost Story” and “Silver Hand,” The Duke proves that you can teach an old dog new tricks, weaving old demos with new tracks with the help of Greg Ashley of The Gris Gris and Crystal StiltsKeegan Cooke.

Case Studies’ first single, “Lies,” caught on film by Seattle photographers-turned-videographers Kyle Johnson and Andrew Wait, encapsulates the excitement of Lortz’s newfound appreciation for songwriting through a summer dream sequence set in America’s Northwest corner.

Case Studies’ The World Is Just a Shape to Fill the Night is available now through Sacred Bones Records.
